Nokia 8 India launch scheduled for September 26, HMD Global sends out invites

HMD Global has sent out invites for the launch of its next Nokia smartphone in India.


HMD Global will be launching its latest flagship smartphone, the Nokia 8, in India on September 26. HMD Global has sent out media invites for a smartphone launch on September 26 which reads, “Join us for unveiling the next milestone of Nokia Phones”. With the rest of its Nokia smartphones already launched in India, it’s a no brainer that the Nokia 8 will be unveiled next.




With the launch happening on September 26, sales for the Nokia 8 are expected to begin sometime in the second week of October. As part of the company’s online and offline strategy, the Nokia 8 could be sold offline. HMD Global’s launch date and sale timeframe for the Nokia 8 is said to be decided upon keeping the festive season in mind. The company plans to launch the Nokia 8 just before Diwali to capture the mass market. In Europe, the Nokia 8 is priced at €599, which translates to approximately Rs 45,000.




Nokia 8 specifications, features

The Nokia 8 features a 5.3-inch IPS 2K resolution display with 700nits of brightness, and Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor. The smartphone comes with 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of internal which is further expandable up to 256GB via a microSD card.

For photography, the Nokia 8 sports Carl ZEISS-powered dual cameras at the rear. The dual-camera setup includes a pair of 13-megapixel sensors – one clicking photos in RGB, and the other in monochrome. The primary sensor comes with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and PDAF support, f/2.0 aperture, and IR range finder. Up front, the smartphone houses s a 13-megapixel snapper with PDAF support, f/2.0 aperture, and display flash.


Keeping the smartphone ticking is a 3,090mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support. Its connectivity options include dual-SIM support, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi, USB Type-C port, and a 3.5mm audio jack. The Nokia 8 also features a fingerprint sensor, IP54 rating for protection against accidental splashes of water, and three microphones for audio recording. On the software front, it runs on stock Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box. The Nokia 8 has already received Android 8.0 Oreo beta, with the stable version expected to release soon.
